At Polam Hall every thing we do is based on a focus on the individual pupil. The wisdom of this approach is strongly endorsed by our public examination results.
Year on year pupils exceed their own expectations and those predicted by baseline tests.
2010 was no exception. In a year where university places were at a premium EVERY student gained a place at their chosen university. Our percentage of A* grades at A level was the best in the area by far. Polam Hall was placed 8th in the UK in the smaller schools’ League Tables.
At GCSE the points per entry score rose for the fourth consecutive year.
At A level the following students deserve particular congratulation: -
- Stacey Kwok – who gained 6* grades and averaged 594/600 in her A level papers.
- Suzie Millar – whose 4 A* A levels were complemented by her outstanding achievements in Music, Dance & Drama
- Ingrid Tjendro – who achieved 5 A* grades and who gained almost full marks in English Literature, History, Government & Politics and Psychology whilst studying in her third language.
- Tim Gardner - who gained 2 A* and an A, securing his place in Medicine despite being a year young and giving generously of his musical talents throughout his time in the Sixth Form.
CONSISTENT HIGH STANDARDS
At Polam Hall School, when it comes to exam results, as at all other times, our focus is on the individual. Careful analysis of students’ performance over many years shows us what each pupil is likely to achieve at each stage. Thus, at GCSE and at A level, we celebrate everyone who has achieved or exceeded our expectations. We aim to bring out the best in each student and allow every individual to realise her or his full potential.
We are very proud of the fact that our A level leavers consistently, and with almost 100% success rate, go on to study the courses and to take up places at the universities of choice. 2009 was no exception as our Destination of Leavers page shows. Very personal and close guidance through the UCAS process means that students apply wisely and their references support their applications. We see the impressive outcomes of this approach year on year.
League tables are notoriously difficult to interpret, and can be very misleading, especially for relatively small schools and those with a significant proportion of EFL students who study IELTS rather than GCSE English. Some of our excellent overseas students, who will go on to Oxbridge or similar, do not count in our A-C figures as a result of this anomaly. Our international students achieve excellent results at both GCSE and A level. Similarly our non-selective entry includes a range of abilities including some for whom success is not appropriately measured in academic terms.
We are very proud of our results and feel it is helpful to present them in 5 year averages, so that trends over time, or consistency, can be observed.
A levels
Over the past 5 years, our students have achieved an average points per candidate equating to an average of ABB for each student. The breakdown of results can be seen in these spreadsheets.
