Polam Hall School
Good Cause and Awards
PHOSA actively raise funds to support current pupils and school projects.
Good Cause
Annually, the President of PHOSA nominates a fundraising project as our Good Cause. Since the school's centenary in 1988 we have donated almost £125,000 to purchase new equipment, support a variety of projects and maintain the school's beautiful buildings and grounds. Money raised has been invested in rebuilding the Glass Corridor, construction of the hard tennis courts, furnishing the Head of Boarding's quarters, providing equipment for the Liddiard Theatre, the new school minibus and in Library funds and Art Room equipment, to name only a few past causes.
Bursaries
Bursaries provided by PHOSA can make the difference between a pupil being able to stay at the school, or having to leave. In the current climate PHOSA are keenly aware of the need to support pupils whose financial means may have changed. We provide a bursary to maintain pupils in such circumstances.
The Sylvia Owen Bursary - In 2011 at the request of PHOSA members the PHOSA Trustees have agreed to setup a fund where donations received will be provided to the School to be added to their Bursary fund, this donation will be in memory of Sylvia Owen and will specifically go toward a sixth former who excels in science.
Awards
PHOSA's annual awards aim to inspire and encourage pupils to widen their education in the pursuit of personal interests and travel. Monetary awards include the Travel Award, the Erica Martineau Award, and the Helen Baines Award. Other awards include the Medal Essay Competition.
