PHS in the Community
A Polam Hall School students’ group were officially recognised for its charitable work.
The Interact group beat off competition from 1,600 entries to be declared one of three North East winners in the Nationwide Building Society Community and Heritage Awards.
Polam Hall Interact president Suzie Millar was presented with a commemorative award and £100 worth of dining out vouchers at a ceremony at the Discovery Museum, Newcastle.
The group has been recognised for its work during the last two years which has included:
*Two charity sleepovers which raised money for the Roy Castle Lung Foundation and towards building a school in Kenya;
*Packing bags at local supermarkets generating £1,000 in aid of Sports Relief;
*Running a Christmas Fair cake stall to buy a DVD player and DVDs for Harewood House, which supports disabled children and their families;
*Assisted the local Rotary Club at Darlington Memorial Hospital Fete and charity road races;
*Completing two Romania Shoe Box Appeals filling 200 boxes.
Marie Green, Head at Polam Hall School, said: “Polam Hall is very proud of the Interact group’s charitable endeavours. To secure regional recognition in the Nationwide’s Community and Heritage Awards against so many other entries is a great achievement.
“The group’s work is part and parcel of the rounded philosophy at Polam Hall where we encourage students not only to develop academically but also become involved in and contribute to the wider community.”
