Creative Development

Children explore sound and colour, texture, shape, form and space in two and three dimensions.

They respond in a variety of ways to what they see, hear, smell, touch and feel. Through art, music, dance and imaginative play, they show an increasing ability to use their imagination, to listen and to observe. They use a widening range of materials, suitable tools, instruments and other resources to express ideas and to communicate their feelings.


In Upper Foundation children will be encouraged to explore many open - ended activities that initiate their own learning, and make creative choices and decisions.

They will feel confident to ‘have a go’ exploring new things in a supportive environment. Once again our natural outdoor area provides an environment in which children can play and learn, encouraging dynamic creative play opportunities. Along with supportive staff, the children will use their imagination in art and design, music, dance, role–play and stories.

Both Lower and Upper Foundation children benefit from receiving weekly dance tuition from a specialist teacher, and the older children develop co-ordination and poise through ballet and movement.
