Boarding

'The mutual respect and friendship between the overseas and British pupils is a model of what a global community should be.'
CSCI Report 2006

Polam Hall in Darlington is a girls boarding school offering a safe, friendly environment in which girls from a variety of countries and backgrounds can enjoy their education to the full. Local girls are able to take advantage of our flexi-boarding, whilst those who live further afield can weekly or full board.

Our international and UK students (many from the forces) all enjoy the benefits that a small boarding community can provide – a warm, friendly, family focused community.

From as young as 8 the girls are able to learn in an environment which is both friendly and caring yet challenging and stimulating. Girls are able to take their GCSE’s and A levels and go on to study at a wide range of Universities.

Girls who board are looked after by Head of Boarding assisted by her team of resident housemistresses. The staff promote a friendly, family atmosphere and encourage the girls to talk about their day. There is a strong community feeling within the boarding house with the girls looking after each other and sharing in a wide range of evening and weekend activities.

The boarders themselves elect a leadership team consisting of a Head Boarder, Assistant Head Boarder(s), and two Heads of House. These senior students work closely with the staff to ensure the smooth running of the boarding community. The Boarding Council, with representatives of all age groups, meets regularly and an Independent Listener is available to all boarding students.
