Senior School
Bronze Duke of Edinburgh Award
Polam Hall invites all pupils entering Middle 5 to join the Duke of Edinburgh Scheme at Bronze level. The Award consists of 4 sections:
- Skills
- Physical
- Volunteering (new name for service)
- Expedition
Training
There are weekly training sessions. This year training is on:
Wednesday or Thursday nights 4.15pm to 5.15 pm.
Students should come to one of these training nights each week.
During these sessions Miss Booth prepares the students for the expedition section and gives advice on completing the skill, volunteering and physical sections. Training is very varied and includes navigation, emergency drills, camp craft and team building tasks. The students need to make a commitment to attend one session each week.

What’s New?
The Duke of Edinburgh Award is trying to get with it. Currently there are two major changes planned.
The new name is just D of E because that’s what everybody uses.
The more drastic change is NO MORE RECORD BOOKS. All records are going to be kept by the participants online in a controlled version of a social website like facebook to be called eDofe. Students will go online and upload their pictures, evidence, blogs on completing each section. When the students complete the award it will all be printed out to create a portfolio of achievements which will become a keepsake and part of the certificate. There is a lot more to it than that, so Miss Booth is looking forward to the challenge of mastering erecords!
Further information about the D of E Award can be found out at dofe.org or by asking Miss Booth.
