Senior School
PSHCE
Personal, Social, Health and Citizenship: educationing young people on these vital areas is one of our most important tasks. At Polam Hall, our aim is to help all of our pupils become well-informed, self aware and responsible members of the school and wider community. We thought you would be interested to see the topics we cover. The programmes of study are annually reviewed and always allow for a degree of spontaneity, for flexibility and reflect staff expertise in specific areas.
At Polam Hall we consider PSHCE to be an important ingredient of a balanced education, and deliver our PSHCE curriculum in a number of ways, for example through our varied extra-curricular activities programme, Reading (Polam Hall’s name for assembly) and regular Form Periods. There is also a very well developed programme of visits made during holidays to places as diverse as Australia or Tanzania.
The curriculum, as you can see, is broad ranging, covering everything from study skills to human rights and preparation for work experience. It provides opportunities for debates and allows time to prepare Form Readings, discuss form issues and plan fund raising events such as our recent Help for Heroes day. The lessons also allow forms and form teachers time to get to know each other better as it is form teachers who deliver the bulk of the programme.
In the Sixth Form students benefit from an enrichment programme and can take advantage of a range of leadership opportunities. Recently these have included holding a Mock General Election, organising a Fashion Show for charity and running a Fair Trade club.
