Two of our Upper Five (Year 11) students asked if they could put a newsletter together. The result can be seen here.
Well done girls - we hope you will make this a regular feature!
A Boy's Perspective
Polam Hall Independent School for Girls - Not any more! Anyone passing the entrance on Grange Road will probably notice that the banner advertising the school has been replaced with a new one anouncing that the school is 'now taking boys aged 2 to 18' I am one of those boys.
I had known for several weeks beforehand that in September 2010 I would be starting a new school. However the reality of it only hit home as the first day approached and I started to 'get together' my books, files, games kit etc. for the start of the new term. This year, I suddenly realised, was going to be very different from the last . I am 15 years old and have changed school in the middle of my GCSE 2 year course. (Not something I would recommend but C'est la Vie!).
On the first morning we were given a guided tour by Mrs Hall our shadow tutor and I was amazed at the size of the grounds. This was followed by a Latin lesson with Mrs Hampson - who seems very nice - and then Geography with Mr Russell (a familiar face). I won't bore you with details of all the lessons but let's just say everything seems to be going OK and the teachers are all enthusastic. The food at lunchtime is good and there's lots of choice.
My previous school was for boys only so being around girls during the day is new to me, although I do think it is a good idea being separated for lessons. The girls in my year, Upper Five, have kindly agreed to share their Common Room with the boys so that's an unexpected bonus. This year is going to be a challenge if nothing else, with new teachers, different timetables, a new building to negotiate and so on but I am sure that any problems can hopefully be resolved and that it will be a steady learning curve for everyone. I am already enjoying school and hope that the support will continue. All in all it's been a good 'first week' at Polam Hall Independent School for Girls and Boys.
