Senior School
Setting
All setting is the result of continuous monitoring and careful assessment. Our aim in setting is to ensure each pupil’s continued progress and development by teaching all at an appropriate level and pace.
MATHS
Students are set in December of L4
Sets are reviewed end of L4, end of U4, end of L5.
Up to this point all sets follow the same curriculum, but at the most appropriate pace.
In M5/U5 the top set(s) take the Higher Tier GCSE and the lower set(s) take the Foundation allowing a maximum grade C.
FRENCH
Students are set in December of L4
Sets are reviewed end of L4, end of U4, end of L5.
ALL sets are aiming for Higher Tier GCSE entry.
SCIENCE
Students are always set for the GCSE years.
Set 1 aims to cover all 9 GCSE modules, securing 3 Science GCSEs - (Biology, Chemistry and Physics)
Sets 2 and 3 cover 6 GCSE modules (2 each of Biology, Chemistry and Physics), securing 2 Science GCSEs.
The 2 GCSE route is the basis from which A level begins.
Students from any set are able to take Science A levels provided they achieve an appropriate grade at GCSE.
We aim to set Science in L5, and even in U4, when the timetabling allows. If students are setted in U4 or L5, sets will be reviewed at the end of each academic year.
ENGLISH
Students are always set for the GCSE years. All sets aim to enter for the Higher Tier GCSE. Occasionally students are advised to concentrate on GCSE English, rather than both English and English Literature
We aim to set English in L5, and even in U4, when the timetabling allows. If students are setted in U4 or L5, sets will be reviewed at the end of each academic year.
These arrangements represent our normal practice. Informal and ongoing assessment or interim reviews may occasionally result in set movement at a different time.
