Senior School
The Study Centre
The Study Centre makes effective use of the advantages granted to the Independent Sector regarding curriculum omissions and additions. Every effort is made to adapt what we offer to suit the needs of the individual ; this includes providing for the needs of HIGHER ACHIEVERS. Besides curriculum adaptation there can be times when relevant or interested specialists work with pupils in The Study Centre.
Teaching support is offered through The Study Centre to pupils with learning difficulties and also to those pupils who find themselves too academically challenged.
Help is provided in a variety of ways depending upon the needs of the individual and after discussion between the Headmistress, the relevant subject teachers, the parent(s) and the SENCO (Special Educational Needs Co-ordinator).
Most pupils attending lessons in the Study Centre take extra English and/or Mathematics lessons. Students from Middle 5 (Year 10) may also use their time to supplement the wider range of mainstream coursework. Pupils will not attend one or two mainstream subjects in order to provide time to attend the Study Centre where they will be taught in a small group setting.
Study Centre groups are approximately two to six pupils in number.
One or two pupils per year group have their learning difficulties met through having all their English and Mathematics taught in the Study Centre.
Statemented pupils and others with documented learning difficulties are most welcome and the SENCO will address their administrative and outside agency issues as well as advising on appropriate curriculum arrangements.
