ART & DESIGN

The A level course on offer includes Fine Art, Textiles and Photography. During the two year course students are taken on visits to galleries and museums to allow for first hand experience of Art.

Lower and Upper 6 Curriculum Statement for Art

All AS students follow the same theme (which has been ‘Trees’ this year) for the Coursework Unit, but they are expected to be very experimental, individual and imaginative. A visit to a range of galleries in London will enable them to seek inspiration in the work of others which is a requirement of the course. Their task is to build up a body of work which shows how they have developed their ideas on the theme. This is followed by an Externally Set Assignment which will be accompanied by another visit. All the work that has been produced during the year will go into a public exhibition. At A2 level the students have much more freedom to select their own topic and there is the requirement for a 2 – 3,000 word written assignment, but will follow the same way pattern as AS.

Our most recent visit included THE SAATCHI GALLERY where students had a guided tour of specific exhibits.

PHOTOGRAPHY

Playful started

Photography is offered as a specialism at AS and A2. Students have the opportunity to produce both digital and film images. Darkroom practice and digital enhancements and manipulations are taught in parallel during the AS year.

A2 students are free to choose either film or digital photography or indeed they may continue to combine both.
