Geography

At AS and A2 we study the AQA specification. Currently the AS options are population, rivers and floods, coastal landscapes and the geography of food. At A2 students are encouraged to read widely and think critically about the subject.

Geography is essentially the study of the real world so fieldwork is important as it encourages students to observe at first hand topics they have been studying as well as enabling them to work both independently and as a team. We try to incorporate relevant fieldwork experience whenever possible. Fieldwork techniques are taught, students learn the skills essential to undertake geographical enquiry and they attend a residential fieldcourse at a centre in the Yorkshire Wolds.

The current A2 options include contemporary geographical issues such as world cities, plate tectonics and associated hazards together with weather and climate. Students have the opportunity to take the Issue Evaluation paper as well as the Fieldwork Investigation option.
