ICT

AS and A2 Information and Communication Technology is an exciting, modern and practical course.

The AS course is made up of two units: Unit one is called 'Practical Problem Solving' and unit two is called 'Living in the Digital World.

The first unit is very practical and you have the opportunity to further your skills in many applications software. You have to prepare a practical piece of work entitled 'Sample Work' and take it into the unit one examination for further questioning.

The second unit is more theoretical and looks at topics such as people in ICT, components of ICT, data and information, safety, security, backup and recovery.

The A2 course is made up of a further two units: 'The use of ICT in the Digital World' and the last unit is Coursework.

For the coursework you have to choose a business that requires an ICT solution. Examples include invoicing systems, website construction, training materials etc. It is a lengthy and substantial project.

Unit 3 is again more theoretical and looks at subjects such as developments in technology, managing ICT in organisations, developing solutions, introducing new ICT systems and training.
