Mathematics

Mathematics, taught in the Polam Hall way is interesting, exciting and fulfilling.

We try to give all our students a chance to experience all branches of the subject and everyone will study Pure Mathematics (algebra, trigonometry etc), Statistics and Mechanics. Discrete Mathematics, very useful in computing, is also offered to the Further Mathematicians.

We continue to have a flourishing Further Mathematics group which is particularly pleasing as many schools and colleges are now struggling with this subject.

Mathematics is fun and we always try to convey this to our groups, whilst not forgetting the importance of making every student feel secure and fully prepared, by means of a thorough revision programme, for every public examination they take in the two years. (One unit in both Mathematics and Further Mathematics is taken in January of year 12 which enables the students to have more time for the summer examinations in year 12).

But what of the future; mathematicians are in great demand partly because of the demise of the subject in recent years making them a “rare breed!” A recent study has shown that mathematicians earn 10% more in their future lives than anyone else. Work this out; if you can you should certainly study Mathematics at Polam Hall.
